「彼はそのビジネスで成功した。」（過去形）という文章を即座にいいかえできるか考えたところ全くできなかったのでおさらいしておく。
He succeeded in the business. succeedは動詞で助動詞（couldなど）がきたときはsucceedという原型になる。（下記参照）
He was successful in the business. successfulは形容詞
He made a success in the business. successは名詞のためａを忘れずにつける。
so muchなどの言葉で強弱をつける場合は、成功する（succeed in～）の動詞であるsucceed と 前置詞であるinの間に挿入する。
He succeeded so much in the business. となる。
助動詞を入れた場合は、それぞれ下記のようになる。
He could succeed in the business.
He could be successful in the business.
He could make a success in the business.
